It was a rain of terror in Oke-Ela area of Ilaro, Tuesday night as men of Nigeria Customs Service stormed the community and rained bullets arbitrarily while pursuing a rice laden vehicle operated by an alleged smuggler.
The ugly incident which occurred around 8pm saw men of Nigeria Customs shooting sporadically, thereby causing civil unrest among the people of Oke-Ela and the popular Old garage junction (Igboro).
Inkline Times gathered that, the operation team had pursued a car loaded with imported rice from the main town to the area while engaging on shoot at sight till the vehicle was apprehended.
However, members of the community were not spared of their illicit attitude of rain of bullets on innocent citizens during the operation.
As at the time of writing this story, members of the town were still in fear, while vehicular movements from the popular “igboro” had been hampered as everyone scampered for safety.
A middle aged Man who witnessed the scenario disclosed that, his personal car was ridden with bullets right on the spot where it was parked.
According to him, ” the customs just came with guns and started shooting at every location and we had to lie down to avoid being hit by the bullets”.
He stated further that, after offloading bags of rice from the vehicle, they damaged the vehicle with free bullets and parts of it hit and damaged his personal car where it was parked.
Meanwhile, an unconfirmed report indicates that one or two persons have been injured as a result of injuries sustained from the sporadic shootings.
It remains unclear whether the operation is a short or long time as members of Ilaro community are already living in the fear of being killed right inside their homes by the stray bullets of men of Nigeria Customs Service.
