Amidst the current lockdown in Ogun state, some residents have shown concern on the readiness of state government to fully implement the lockdown declared by the President, Mr Muhammadu Buhari.
In an interview with some residents in Abeokuta, Ilaro and Ota areas of Ogun state, some of these residents explained that, the security personnel only “make noise” around with their patrol vehicles in the morning and afternoon and without showing up to resist movement in the evening.
Meanwhile, a staff of Dangite Cement Factory in Ibeshe, Yewa North area of the state reliably informed inklinetimes that, the factory can’t be shut down as arrangements have been made to keep some staff within the premises to operate while the lockdown lasted.
He added that, ” we move freely within the town once we show our identity cards to security operatives anytime we are going to work or coming back”. According to him, “our management has already put in place an arrangement to keep some workers within the plant to keep working until the lockdown is over”.
In another development, inklinetimes also gathered that the lockdown has failed in Ota area of the state. Motorists and commercial motorcycles (Okada) riders were seen going about their normal businesses in the noon and evening times while the lockdown is still ongoing in the state.
One of the Okada riders who preferred to be called “Super” told inklinetimes that, there’s no way he could stay at home when people are on the roads looking for who to convey them to their destinations. He stated further that, ” if government is sincere, they will give us what to eat before the lockdown can be effective “.
Another rider, Lukmon said, “how do they expect me to feed my family if they lock everywhere down and there’s no provision for what to eat?” He concluded by saying, “it can’t be possible, this is not Lagos and government must be sincere if they want to really enforce the lockdown”.
At Owode Yewa, although, there were some vehicular moments, the normal business activities remain very low with people showing some compliance but not absolute.
In Ilaro, our correspondent gathered that, the patrol teams have been on ground every morning, afternoon and evening in order to ensure total compliance. However, it was gathered that the level of enforcement has been relaxed thereby paving the way for both human and vehicular movements, especially in the evening time.
As at the time of filing this reports efforts, many Okada riders were seen conveying passengers from one location to the other in the early hours of the day. This no doubt is a contravention to the global warning on social distancing towards avoiding the spread of covid-19.
