Residents of Ilaro are in fear of contacting the dreaded corova virus as a result of the presence of Dangote Cement Company staff living within the community due to the “overloading” system of transportation.
This fear was brought to fore by some residents of the town nursing the fear that the transportation system of Dangote staff to and from Ilaro at this point in time needs to be reviewed.
According to some traders who preferred anonymity, they disclosed to inklinetimes that, “Dangote staff are packed in trucks like can fish every morning and evening and yet, they live with some of us in town after every day’s work”.
In her own reaction, one of the casual staff who preferred to be called Linda explained that, she has nose mask in the bus every time but there’s no way to prevent body contact as they are always many in the bus morning and evening.
She therefore urged the management to take a definite position on the issue of the pandemic in order to save their lives. According to her, “Dangote should do something to save us from Corona virus, please”.
Inklinetimes observed that, despite the warnings from the federal and state governments on human gatherings as well as transportation rules, Dangote buses have continued to move their staff in bulk, thereby threatening the health lives of both the workers and Ilaro residents at large.
In his own reaction, Mr Bamidele Gbenga urged the state government to quickly intervene in the transportation system of Dangote buses from Ilaro to Ibeshe in order to ensure total compliance with the existing directives.
He stated further that, some of these workers come from Ifo, Sango, Lagos and mingle with those living in Ilaro on daily basis without any precautionary measure being put in place.
Since its inception, Dangote Cement Factory has been a positive influence on the economic development of Ilaro township and its environs.
All efforts made to speak with some of the drivers on the issue proved abortive as they preferred not to entertain any question from the media.
