The authority of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro as part of her bid to improve the accounting knowledge of her students on Wednesday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) under the programme of MCTI at the Lagos office of the Institute.
The agreement with ICAN aimed to deepen the standard of learning and dissemination of accounting knowledge in Nigerian institutions will not only bridge the gap between the town and gown but also give polytechnic graduates an edge and competence in competitive labour market
While dashing out the rules binding the agreement and collaboration, the 55th President of ICAN, Mazi Nnamdi Okuwadigbo (FCA) urged the institution to continue to raise the standard of education higher as all collective works by the management of the polytechnic must be to strengthening human capital base in Nigeria.
Commending the institution on the agreement, Okuwadigbo noted that Accounting graduates from the polytechnic will now study using integrated ICAN/NUC/NBTE approved accounting curriculum, while ICAN officials will be visiting the institution unannounced twice a year to evaluate and monitor the degree of compliance with the agreement.
Signing the MoU, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic ilaro, Arc (Dr) Olusegun Aluko appreciated the accounting body for her support towards improving his institution’s standard of education through the MCATI programme, adding that the MCATI will no doubt remove the discrimination of polytechnic graduates as students from ND1 and ND2 would be directly involvef with the professional body.
He however assured the ICAN President of the Polytechnic cooperation and readiness to work along with the body in order to continue raising the academic standard the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro is known for.
Earlier on, the Institute had warned that only members of the body must be allowed to take all accounting courses within the campus as it would not take kindly to any form of violation regarding the agreement.
The Rector was accompanied by the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs Adebisi Osore, Dean, School of Management Studies, Dr Mikhail Akinde(FCA) and Mr Tunde Agbeyangi, Head of Department of Accounting. Others were; Mr Sola Abiala, the PRO, the School Protocol Officer, Mr Omotayo and Mr Bankole.
