The much awaited 40th anniversary celebration of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro started on a colourful note yesterday with the declaration of exhibition commemorating the event by Professor Abibakar Sadauki, the Chairman Governing Council of the institution.
Professor Sadauki extolled the virtues of the Polytechnic which according to him has placed her ahead of other institutions in Nigeria. He therefore urged the school not relent on her oars but to continue soaring higher and maintain her leadership position in the education market.
Earlier on, the Chief Imam of the Polytechnic Community Mosque, Alhaji Bashar was formally ordained and given the staff of office. The ceremony which was performed by the Chief Imam of Ilaro, Alhaji Tajudeen Adewunmi was witnessed by Islamic scholars both within and outside the poly community.
Meanwhile, in a football match commemorating the 40th years celebration, the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro were forced to 1-1 draw by Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, in a pulsating match held at the institution’s playing ground.
FPI team drew the first blood through a well taken free kick at exactly 40 mins of the game in the first half, while parity was restored in the 65th minutes when Yaba Tech boys equalized through a well taken header to the admiration of spectators including Professor Sadauki and other members of the governing council.
The hallmark of the event was the raffle draw through which winners emerged in various categories. Miss Anuoluwapo, a student of Computer Science emerged the winner of the star price of electronic bicycle produced by the School of Engineering of the Polytechnic.
Other notable personalities present at these events were the Polytechnic Rector, Arc(Dr) Olusegun Aluko, members of the governing council as well as the management staff.
Other activities slated for the anniversary celebration include; Church service on Sunday, Media Chat with Rector, Alumni Dinner and the grand finale on Wednesday for convocation. ThevAlaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and Alake of Egbaland are expected to grace the occasion as well as the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle who had donated a block of classroom to the Department of Estate Management.
