The Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, ilaro is set to broadcast the 40th anniversary celebration of the institution as its radio station awaits final approval.
This revelation was made known by the rector of the institution, Arc(Dr) Olusegun Aluko during a press conference organized to signal the commencement of the 40th anniversary celebration of the polytechnic slated for October this year.
Fielding questions from journalists, Aluko said, ” everything is ready to get the radio started. We are only waiting for final approval and once that is done, I want to assure you that our radio station would broadcast the activities of the 40th anniversary to the world, come October “.
Meanwhile, the rector has also disclosed the secret of the institution’s clean record against cultism in Nigeria. He stated that, morality is the key as well as strict compliance to the polytechnic rules and regulations.
According to him, ” we have our students handbook which explains our dos and don’t. “If any students violates any of of our rules, we apply the appropriate sanction(s). Hence, they have no choice than to stay clear of troubles and violence and be good students anywhere they may be” He concluded.
Arc Aluko however took time to appreciate the host community, Ilaro for the cooperation being enjoyed by the polytechnic. He commended the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle for his fatherly role from time to time as well as leaders of Ilaro community at large.
The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro was established in 1979 by the then Head of State, Gen Olusegun Obasanjo. The institution which took off with 108 students in 1979 now have over 10000 students with 33 departments and 6 Schools.
Journalists were later led on a facility tour of the institution for on the spot assessment of various activities ongoing within the polytechnic. Some of the visited places include: the Entrepreneurship centre, Agricultural farms as well as the institution’s tourism village.
The 40th anniversary celebration will showcase so many activities of the institution in the last 40 years. Notably, members of the Alumni association of the institution both home and abroad are poised to make the event a memorable one.
