Aftermath of Super Eagles unexpected loss to Madagascar, the CEO of Brila FM station, Dr. Larry Izamoje has described the loss of as a result of lack of gang in the team.
Speaking on the Afcon championship at the Brilia studio, the veteran sports journalist said, ” you don’t win a tournament without a gang in your team”. Saying the current team does not have any winning gang to deliver.
Speaking further on the performances of the Super Eagles, Izamoje berated the format of the Coach who appointed four Captains in a row, dropped the first choice goalkeeper and built his team round Mikel Obi who was out of the team for quite a long time.
He however praised the fighting spirit of the players who gave their best but couldn’t do more, blaming the loss on lack of tactical discipline from the bench. If they have a gang, they know themselves and what to do per time, then, we can be thinking of winning tournaments from time to time.
Also analysing the event, an ex international, Ifeanyi Udeze also faulted the coach for not changing the formation after conceding the first goal even up till the close of the match.
Udeze stated further that, if you conceed a goal early and things seem not to be working as expected, you are supposed to change your formation by operating from the flanks instead of sticking to the 4-4-3 formation that brought no result.
In his own part, Julius Aghaohwa another former Nigerian international said the team lacks flame as he expected them to fight with their spirits. He concluded that the team did not go with their spirits leaving Madagascar to have a free day.
A Leon Balogun slippery error gave Madagascar an early lead before doubling their efforts in the second half to seal the major victory over Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
With this result, Nigeria is on the verge of playing the Black Stars of Ghana in a match that may likely expose the Super Eagles further and push them out of the Afcon 2019 currently ongoing in Egypt.
