Super Eagles of Nigeria became the first team to qualify for the second round of the 2019 Afcon championship currently ongoing at Egypt with Kenneth Omeruo’s header in the 74 minutes of the game.
In a match that produced nothing much in the first half where Eagles played below expectations, the team coached by the German tactician, Gerhrat Rohr took the second half by storm producing sterling performances as early as possible.
With Odion Ighalo missing an open chance due to poor ball control in the 18 yard box earlier in the first half, a Moses Simon corner kick was well connected by Omeruo who was more active in the box than the attackers to give Nigeria the needed goal.
Although, the Syli Stars of Guinea, led by thrir Liverpool star Naby Keita tormented the Eagles Defence many times without success, it was Nigeria who got the reward for a more improved game of the second half.
The Eagles next face Madagascar in their next match which has little or no effects on their qualification status.
