The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has allegedly declared the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen guilty after he failed to declare his assets.
The tribunal led by Danladi Umar ruled that Mr Onnoghen should forfeit all funds in his undisclosed five accounts.
“Mr Onnoghen with full proof got the funds fraudulently since he couldn’t defend how the huge amount was acquired” said the tribunal.
The tribunal invoked the full provision of Section 23 of the code of conduct law which allows it to remove Mr Onnoghen from office. It ordered that Mr Onnoghen should not return to the office in the next ten years.
Although Onnoghen had in previous weeks sent a notice of retirement to the President Buhari, in accordance with the recommendation of the National Judicial Council.
However, the President is yet to to clarify Mr Onnoghen’s retirement.
